jhnmyr:

Here’s a clip of the first single off Born and Raised, called “Shadow Days.” I’m excited to share the first bit of sound from the album… Been looking forward to a post like this since October 14, 2010, the first day I started writing this group of songs. Enjoy.

New Year

Happy New Year!

I know I’m a little late saying this. Two days to be exact, but I thought it needed to be said.  I wanted to thank all of my friends for being apart of my 2010, and to say I cannot wait to see what 2011 has instore.

One thing I regret about last year is not documenting all of it. I did some amazing things, and some ridiculous things too.  I have decided that I am going to make more of an effort to blog this year.  It isn’t about the followers; it is a way for me to remember everything that happens.  I have some big plans for this year, and hopefully it will all go as planned.  I know it won’t, but atleast it will make a good story :).

Well I’ll keep you posted… literally!

J.

How to get a ticket

I’m tired of reading those stupid magazine articles on “how to not get a ticket” or “how to talk your way out of a ticket”.  It doesn’t work. Regaurdless of how much you flirt or talk in circles to confuse the cop, you will get a ticket to if they need to meet his/her quota. Now, I have had my share of unfortunate events while driving, and I figured I should share my stories.  Learn from my bad example if you will.

My first ticket, I was speeding on a back road near the Florida/Georgia border.  apparently a cop had been following me for about ten minutes.  She asked me why I would speed with a cop right behind me, and my response “I wouldn’t have been speeding if I knew you were right behind me.”  She thought this was funny, and lowered my speed.  This made my ticket reduce in price by $100.

My next ticket, was the following semester.  My roommates and I went to see a concert in Jacksonville.  On the way back to Tallahassee I was pulled over.  The cop informed me that not only was I speeding my headlight was out.  I tried to cry, but no tears were coming.  I told the cop that I had no idea my light was out.  He went back to his car, and came back a few papers.  One was a warning for the speeding (Thank goodness!) and the other was a fix-it ticket for my light.

The next one was beyond a shadow of a doubt my fault, and I understand why the cop wouldn’t change anything for me.  I got pulled over for not wearing my seat belt! I was literally pulling into my friends apartment complex when I noticed his lights.  I asked him if it made a difference that I made it to my destination safely.  He said he wished it did and promptly handed me a ticket.

My last ticket, I recieved a few days ago.  I was on my way to catch a flight out of Jacksonville.  I was running late, and trying to make up some time.  The cop pulled me over and asked why I was in such a rush.  He was an undercover cop for the record. I’m not that oblivious. I joked with him about missing my flight, and I got him to lower my speed.

The moral of the story, if you are going to speed be prepared for a ticket.  Once you are pulled over just be honest with the cop.  They appreciate honesty and some humor.  Think about how many times a day they get people trying to cry their way out of a ticket.  I have noticed if you can make the cop laugh, you have a better shot than ever trying to lie.

This morning my friends and I saw John Mayer on the Today show in NYC. He was wonderful as always, and it was neat to see the television process. However, I noticed a few things about this city.
1) no matter what time, there is something going on… And people will invite you to whatever is going on
2) asking people to do drugs with you is no big deal
3) half the people in the city think my friends and I are hilarious for the mere fact that we will hold conversations.
4) Carrie Bradshaw was not joking when she said there are thousands of beautiful single men…sorry I had to go there
4) going out on the town is a whole night ordeal, and obviously the bars don’t close at 2 like Tallahassee
5) shopping is inevitable. (you will need cash!)

These are just a few things from my first night in the city

Camp

Today is the start of my third camp I worked this summer. I love kids, but i absolutely hate 15 hour days in the 100+ degree weather. I now appreciate every camp counselor i have ever had. This weekend is going to be awful, and while I’m putting band-aids on little kids my friends got a hotel room on the beach. They really had to pick this weekend?! My personal mantra for the moment “I need the money, I need the money, I need the money…” The only thing keeping me motivated is the fact that I will be on NYC in 5 days! Sorry about the vent, but I just needed to get the frustration off my chest. On a lighter note, I could not be more thrilled that there seems to be an answer to the oil spill!
